A visit to Raka Wines farm 17 kilometres from Stanford nestled in the Kleinrivier Mountains with the Klein River flowing through is a must. Its slopes provide a variety of aspects and soil types to produce the wide range of award-winning wines to sample at their cellar.
The wine farm was bought in 1982 by the Dreyer family and named after owner Piet Dreyer’s black fishing vessel and his love of the sea. The whole family is involved in the family business from winemaking, viticulturist to tastings.
With the use of a modern gravity flow cellar, Raka is producing wines from its 68 hectares with plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage, Sangiovese, Viognier, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot and also larger plantings of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc, sufficient for varieties needed for the different blends.
Make sure to taste the award-winning Biography Shiraz, Quinary - Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. You can also enjoy Figurehead – a Cape blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Pinotage or Petit Verdot and Malbec along with the Sagiovese, Pinotage and Sauvignon blanc.
