About Phillipskop Mountain Reserve

Located just outside Stanford on the slopes of the Klein River Mountains, Phillipskop Mountain Reserve provides visitors with expansive views, hiking trails and spacious accommodation.

The self-catering chalets are set among pristine fynbos and each one has its own unique view of the Overberg and the mountains behind. The reserve is also home to a local heritage site, which protects the only recorded rock art on the Cape Whale Coast.

Self Catering Accommodation

Choose from five separate, spacious self catering cottages (Oxalis, Protea, Erica, Restio and Lobelia). Each fully equipped cottage can sleep six people in three bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed with en-suite bathroom. The other two bedrooms have twin beds.

The kitchen has everything you might need, whether just for basic meals or more elaborate dining. There is a gas stove and oven, microwave, toaster and good sized fridge / freezer. The living area is open plan and large enough for groups to gather in. The dining table can easily seat eight people around it.

Out the front is a deck and outdoor table where one can sit and take in the views. The back has a sheltered braai area, which leads out onto the mountainside. Upstairs in the loft area there is games equipment and desk space.

Attractions and Activities

The reserve protects 246ha of the Klein River Mountains. Over 500 species of plant are found on the reserve. There are a number of hiking trails for all abilities that take one to a waterfall, fascinating rock formations, or up to the peak of Phillipskop itself for spectacular views.

Phillipskop Cave is a short walk from the cottages and is a local heritage site with rock art painted by the Khoi and San over 1000 years ago. Near the cottages is the Lily Pond that is a lovely place to cool off on a hot day.
