We stayed at Old Olive Cabin. Unfortunately, we had it in our minds from the beginning (our mistake) that Old Olive Cabin was actually the Bushbuck Suite, so our excitement was dampened when we saw the small cabin, instead of the lovely open-air cabin we had expected! We quickly got over this slight disappointment and settled in. In general, our stay was very pleasant. The cabin is slightly cramped and the styling is not to our more modern taste, but it is very well equipped. The outdoor shower was our absolute favourite part, and the hammock came a close second. Nothing wrong with the outdoor loo either. Baboons came for a visit on several occasions which was actually very exciting. We had one BIG male literally stand up and press his face against the kitchen window, which was a bit of a surprise, but he moved off very quickly once he spotted us. Unfortunately, the complete peace and quiet we had expected was not there for some of the time. On Friday night, we heard loud music playing until late (can only assume coming from the property that is just above the parking spot from the cabin?). We also heard two gunshots during our stay, not sure whether this was some people chasing away baboons? It was unfortunate to have the serenity of the forest disrupted. I believe that there also needs to be more clarity in terms of where the freezer and extra wood are located. The Info Hut says it contains these, but it does not. When you arrive at the cabin, you are in fact told that the freezer and extra wood are located in another hut on the complete opposite side of the property (too inconveniently far to walk to, considering that you are not allowed to drive there). We would suggest making this clearer for guests. In addition, the later directions for the alternative route could have been made a little clearer. They just state, "After about 6.5 km, take a gravel road to your left". Perhaps include in the description a defining feature that guests can look out for, as there are several gravel roads leading off from the tar road. A note about the forest. Please do not expect this to be similar to the large, spectacular forests with plenty of tall trees like what you will find in the Garden Route forests. Platbos comprises mainly smaller, dense vegetation with the odd large tree every here and there. Still nice, but just making this clear for guests. All in all, thank you for a nice stay.
