About Black Eagle Lodge

Tucked away in the Overberg Mountains outside Caledon, Black Eagle Lodge offer a tranquil farm-style retreat just 90 minutes from Cape Town. Revive your soul, surrounded by nature, from the privacy of these beautiful self-catering lodges, spaced nearly a kilometer apart, on the mountain slopes of a working farm, hidden halfway between Caledon and Botriver.

Awake to the call of the sugarbird and unwind on an expansive verandah, overlooking a spring-water dam and rolling wheat fields. Take the edge off hot summer days in pools of cool spring water and warm up winter nights beside a blazing log fire. Count the stars with the children and teach them to fly-fish, collect frogs or spot a black eagle.

ACCOMMODATION

Our original self-catering Lodge accommodates up to six people, with a loft above the fireplace offering an inviting sleeping area for two extra children. Rustic yet with comfortable beds and crisp cotton linen, this cosy Lodge overlooks a spring-fed dam and is half a kilometre away from the new Villa, ensuring complete privacy.

Features include a boma-style enclosed barbecue/braai area, 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 en suite) and open-plan living area with stone fireplace. Being eco-friendly, there is no electricity, however solar –powered lighting and plenty of candles are offered.

There is a wood fired hot tub where you can relax, soak and absorb the view.

Catering

Both Lodge and Villa are self-catering and the town of Caledon is a 15 minute drive away and has well provisioned supermarkets.

• Run our 7 and 4km farm trails
• Watch the shearing of our Merino sheep
• Spot the lambs and Hereford calves in season (from a distance, we are not a petting farm)
• Take an early morning walk in the pear and apple orchards
• Self-guide your own birding walks in our richly populated environment
• Relax on a lounger with your binoculars and identify birds from the covered verandah
• Go wine-tasting at either the Botriver or Hermanus wine routes
• Enjoy lunch out at the fabulous restaurants, cafes and delis situated from 20 minutes away
• Take a full day trip to adventurous experiences like shark cage-diving, canyon ziplining and whale-watching
• Take a half day trip to the beach, markets, golf courses, spas and famous Caledon hot baths
