About Sixpence Cottage

Stanford is only two hours from Cape Town and is situated between Hermanus and Gansbaai, it is home to the shortest river in the world (Klein River) and is on the sloping foothills of the mountains. It also has a fascinating heritage that seems to permeate every part of it and infuse it with a tangible vibe.

Self-catering Accommodation

Combining the convenience and security of an hotel with the privacy of a self-catering holiday home, Sixpence Cottage is a stand-alone cottage located in the grounds of The Stanford Hotel (the only hotel in the village).

The Sixpence Cottage is a gorgeous holiday cottage for two that makes the most of these scenic surrounds. It is also pet-friendly for a single, well-behaved pet that won't be left alone. The bedroom has a comfy double bed and there is a separate compact bathroom with a shower.

The lounge and dining room are open-plan, making them a light, airy space to relax with a good book or a glass of excellent South African wine. The kitchen is fully equipped to whip up a breakfast before heading out to explore the pretty surrounds, or a romantic dinner at the end of the day.

The private garden is beautifully maintained and best enjoyed from the sunny veranda. The impressive milkwood tree gives just enough shade to make for a gorgeous spot to cool down and enjoy the outdoors on a sweltering summer day.

Pet-friendly

Well-behaved pets can stay by arrangement in the Sixpence Cottage and due to the central location of the cottage, it is only a 3 minute walk to the river and your furkids will have the time of their lives! Stanford itself has a wandelpad all along the river, but if you're looking for pet-friendly hikes and beach walks, we can advise you where to go.

On Site Extras

There is also secure parking; perfect for boats, kayak trailers and fully kitted 4×4's, a small braai that belongs to the cottage and a bench located under the old Milkwood tree that shades a large section of the garden.

The Area

Stanford is a gorgeous village in the Cape Overberg with plenty of tourist appeal. Stanford is known for its pretty trails, one of which is along the river and continues through the village. Paddle down the river on the Hermanus Estuary, head to the Historical Market Square for some fresh produce, or go whale-watching along the coast.
