The town of Gansbaai is just 5 minutes by car, with supermarkets, a gym, banks, and various specialty shops and restaurants and cafes. Gansbaai is also the leading destination for shark cage diving. The town of Stanford, known for its gourmet country restaurants is just 15 minutes away.

Self Catering Accommodation

Guppy Huys is a self catering bungalow that is comfortably furnished with a mid-century modern look. There are three bedrooms, two with double beds and one with two bunk beds. There are two bathrooms with a shower and a bath.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven and fridge and there is a dining room with table and chairs for six guests. There is a slow combustion fireplace in the comfortable living room, acovered stoep on the ocean side and a boma on the street side of the property, all of which are perfect spots for sharing stories with family and friends or enjoying a braai and a glass of local wine.

While we hope Guppy Huys will take you back to a time when things were less-busy, simpler and quieter, we also realise that the modern world still beckons and have included practical amenities like high speed wireless internet and usb charging points. Eco Friendly Efforts

In all that we do, we try to have as light a touch as possible on the environment while still providing a comfortable and relaxing stay. The eco-wood deck is manufactured from recycled plastic rather than unsustainably harvested hard woods. As much as possible we choose for environmentally friendlier products, including the Afriearth shampoos, soaps and other amenities. The solar geysers provide most of our hot water and this is supplemented by an electric boiler. If at any point you need more hot water you can press the red buttons on the far left of the controllers in the cupboard in the third bedroom (two single beds). This will switch on the electric supplementary heaters. They turn off again when they reach 55 degrees. The lighting at Guppy Huys is also fitted with low-energy LED lighting and the slow combustion fireplace is designed to optimize heat while reducing the amount of wood used. All of our new appliances, like the dishwasher, oven and refrigerator are A rated (or better) for low energy consumption.

Area Information

The quiet upmarket neighbourhood of De Kelders borders on the pristine Walker Bay nature conservancy that extends along the coast all the way to Hermanus. The north-facing coast, provides an excellent climate and on a clear day it's possible to see all the way to the Cape peninsula. In Stamford you will find a cheese farm, honey producer, charcuterie, wineries, a brewery, a distillery, river activities and even a big cat sanctuary. The area is a food lover's paradise.
