About Star Nation Art Studio & Gallery
The Western Cape’s Heidelberg is a gold mine of artists and crafters that create gorgeous, personal pieces amidst the beauty of the Hessequa region, just east of the Overberg. The Langeberg Mountain Range stretches for miles in the distance, while the whole little town is situated on the banks of the Duiwenhoks River. These natural features lend the area a really magnificent charm that lures travellers to stop here time and again.
The Star Nation Art Studio & Gallery is where resident artists Louise and Andries Kluyts create and exhibit their work, which is accompanied by other pieces from local artists and art students. Visitors will frequently find Louise hard at work in the studio behind the old house, and can watch as she imagines and creates.
In addition to the artists and the pieces on display, there are a number of workshops conducted from and by Star Nation. Louise holds several classes that cover fine art, therapy art, drawing, mosaics, lino printing, and painting with acrylics, oils and mixed materials. Andries provides a fascinating three-day course on blacksmithing, after which students will leave with a functional piece that is hand-crafted and personal.
Kallien Louw is a potter that uses the studio at Star Nation to host ceramic workshops for those that want to feel the cool damp of the clay as they form it gently into something really special. Ann van der Walt is the watercolour art teacher here, and Hester hosts bonsai workshops on occasion. Classes are held for up to eight people, so that everyone can enjoy individual help and attention.
All of this variety and expertise under one roof add up to a fantastic trove of unique delights that make stunning gifts for friends and family, or exquisite keepsakes to remind visitors of their very special time in South Africa.
Heidelberg is less than 300 kilometres from Cape Town and its many world-famous tourist attractions. These include Table Mountain, Robben Island, the Cape Winelands and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.
