Arabella Estate, Cape Overberg
The Arabella Country Estate is a prime golfing hotspot that is situated just off the coast of the Western Cape. It is about an hour's drive from Cape Town, and less than 30 kilometres outside the whale-watching town of Hermanus. Despite this fairly central location, it enjoys an air of total peace and seclusion from the “real world”.
Arabella is, undoubtedly, one of the most esteemed golfing and living estates in South Africa, giving those who come here a sense of luxury ensconced in the majesty of untouched mountain ranges, coastal flora and mile upon mile of unspoilt beaches. The Bot River Lagoon and the Palmiet Mountain Range are its local natural treasures, and both provide spectacular views and prime habitats for an array of plant and animal species. The estate covers 113 hectares and is situated within the transitional zone of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. This means that the estate is run with conservation in mind, promising those that visit or live here an insight into the natural splendour of the country.
In addition to the stunning vegetation here - which includes mountains, rivers, beach scrub, orchards and vineyards - there are a number of water birds that assure nature-lovers of many beautiful sightings. It is no wonder that Kogelberg is a UNESCO-designated site. In fact, it is home to in excess of 1 880 different plant species, making it the world's most complex place in terms of its biodiversity.
The Arabella golf course itself is one of the country's finest. It combines breath-taking vistas with some challenging sand traps and water hazards. There is an abundance of plant and bird life to boot.
The serenity of the Palmiet Mountain Range and the excitement of this world-class estate combine to ensure that Arabella's esteemed visitors will treasure the memories of their time spent here.
