This estate is owned by the Belgian Dutch van Almenkerk family. The story of how Natalie and Joris van Almenkerk found their farm began in 2002 when they relocated to South Africa and searched for a farm with just the right terroir. Once encouraged to seek over the Kogelberg Mountain, they found an apple farm in Elgin and today own 15 hectares of vine in productions.
Four of these hectares are planted to apples and pears. They currently have 4 varieties of apples and one pear cultivar. The apples are Royal Gala (which is their favourite), Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and Pink Lady. The pears are Packham Triumph. Joris in charge of the wine making, Natalie is at the helm of sales, marketing, PR and admin. Patriarch Joep acts as a business mentor and assists with wine tastings. When the going gets busy, friends are always eager to help out with harvest. You can go on a cellar tour or lounge in their comfortable tasting room where you are encouraged to make yourself at home whilst tasting their wines.
