About Whale Watching from Witsand to Cape Agulhas

Better known as The Whale Nursery of the South African Coast, Witsand is situated at the mouth of the Breede River. Its unspoilt beaches and peaceful coastal town attracts many whale seekers from all around the world.

The nick name, The 'Whale Nursery of the South African Coast', originated because of its high count of Southern Right whales, most of whom return each year to calve.

In 2006, Witsand counted a record total of 165 whales, of which 69 calves were born. Of all the places along the coast line it’s the one place that you’re guaranteed to spot a whale!
