The Rotterdam Restaurant is idyllically nestled within a charming country setting just outside Swellendam. It is set apart by the gorgeous views of the mountains and the verdant greenery that characterises the Cape Overberg. The restaurant is not only about breath-taking scenery, though. It is set apart by the world-class cuisine that is crafted by Chef Josh, who was a finalist for Kokkedoor (a reality cooking competition) in 2014.

This chef’s menu is all about celebrating the wonders of flavour, texture and colour. They’re about exploring new approaches and honouring classic favourites. On a Friday evening, guests can look forward to a buffet of curried tripe, while Sunday lunches are more traditional; with succulent roast beef, spicy roast chicken, homemade bread, and baked malva pudding with lavender custard. The restaurant is also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (prior reservations are essential). Each dish is masterfully presented to make the dining experience just that - an experience.

The Rotterdam dining area includes an outdoor veranda, from which the views and the bracing fresh air can best be savoured. The elegant décor is tasteful and inviting, creating a welcoming venue for top-notch dining.

Swellendam is about halfway between George on the Garden Route and the Mother City of Cape Town. It is surrounded by stunning hiking and walking trails, thanks to the mountainous topography that typifies this part of the Western Cape. It is also perched a mere six kilometres from the Bontebok National Park. This reserve is home to bontebok, grey rhebok, Cape mountain zebra and red hartebeest.
