There are few places as beautiful as Greyton in the Western Cape. It is raw, unassuming and exquisite. And there are few better ways to celebrate it than by immersing yourself in the countryside that sculpts this part of the Overberg.

The Hike & Bike Tour offers the ideal way to do this, thanks to iMTB Africa. The trail spans three days and two nights and includes incredible natural features. Hikers and cyclists can look forward to exploring the Boesmanskloof Trail (stretching between McGregor and Greyton) and the Overberg Valley. Both of these natural gems are prime spots for anyone that loves the outdoors.

On the first day, hikers and cyclists are collected in Cape Town and taken to the exquisite Breede River Valley, where the landscapes are defined by mountains, dense fynbos, verdant greenery, vineyards, and plenty of wildlife. From here, you will explore the Riviersonderend Mountains before having a dip in the refreshing mountain pools and waterfalls. You will overnight in Greyton and enjoy a fabulous meal before heading out on day two’s adventure.

On the second day, you will head into the Greyton Valley, where there are no formal trails or facilities. After a morning of challenging the landscapes, stop at the local brewery for an ice-cold beer and a delicious lunch, while a typical South African dinner will be enjoyed under the stars a little later.

On day three, you will head back to Cape Town via the Elgin Valley. This is the spot for a once-in-a-lifetime lunch in the heart of a spectacular wine farm on top of the mountain.

This entire adventure is punctuated by breath-taking views, rugged ranges, enchanting waterfalls, pretty vegetation and an array of fauna. Look out for little duikers, klipspringers and baboons. Sometimes, you may even spot a shy caracal. Bird-lovers are well-rewarded here and will never forget watching a black eagle, booted eagle or jackal buzzard soaring overhead.
