The Diamond Works, Cape Town

Diamond Works is Cape Town’s finest jewellery experience. Established in October 2001, the idea was to create a jewellery destination whereby tourists could learn about the art of diamond cutting, witness the make up of jewellery pieces and see and purchase the finished product.

All of this is experienced in a welcoming and relaxed environment. Tours are offered in various languages including English, German, Russian and French. The Diamond Works is a one-stop, exciting experience for tourists both young and old. Situated on the ground floor of the Metropolitan Life Centre, directly opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre, there is convenient parking for tourist coaches and visitors’ vehicles right outside the main entrance. It is completely wheelchair friendly. A complimentary transfer service is also available on request.

Guests are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and taken on an informative 20 minute tour! Internet Café - Visitors are welcome to surf the internet, send mail or use our webcam facilities to share their diamond experiences with family and friends at home.

The Sparkling Tour:
You will be greeted with a glass of bubbly and then taken on an informative tour that takes approximately twenty minutes. The tour starts with a fully operational diamond-cutting workshop, staffed by diamond cutters from previously disadvantaged communities who are all graduates from the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Cutting School in Jo-burg.

This is followed by the jewellery-manufacturing workshop where one can see the goldsmiths at work. Historical information is furnished on the Diamond and Gold mining industry as well as The Diamond Wall of Fame that covers all the Famous Diamonds of the World. A Tanzanite boutique portrays a large selection of this exquisite but rare violet-blue precious gemstone. Showcases of beautifully crafted pieces of jewellery adorn the showroom along with loose stones should a personal design be preferred. An Internet café offering refreshments and an opportunity to email home completes the picture.
