On Saturday mornings, the courtyard alongside Stanford Art Café on Stanford’s main road, Queen Victoria Street, fills up with locals selling fresh food and goods. From bakes; preserves; bread; flowers; herbs; stews and honey, to vintage trinkets and clothing - the market offers a little bit of everything that passionate green-fingered Stanford locals have to offer. It also serves as a quaint meeting place for residents, weekenders and visitors to chat and catch up on gossip!
Owners of Havercroft’s, Brydon and Innes Havercroft are a fixed addition at the morning market, with offerings of irresistible gourmet pies and pastries, cakes and delectable desserts. Get there early enough, and you’ll probably still find some kitka, seed loaf or ciabatta at Anke’s bread and pate stand - everything is lovingly prepared by Anke throughout the week, with ingredients sourced from her bountiful garden. Tracy, from the The Purple Pumpkin Nursery often brings along a carefully chosen selection of pretty plants and potted herbs, while fresh lettuce, pak choi and other leafy greens are available at a stand at the market. Take a basket along and fill it up with fresh goods to eat and prepare for the rest of the weekend.
Pop in at the sweet vintage and antique stores surrounding the courtyard and find some of the most beautiful collectables, books, crockery and furniture that Stanford has on offer.
