The Western Cape town of Montagu is idyllically situated along Route 62 and offers visitors the perfect base from which to explore the Little Karoo (or Klein Karoo, as it is known locally) and all of its culinary delights. The Montagu Farmstall is the perfect little stop for travellers that want to stock up on fruit and nut products en route, or who want to sample some local delights and spend time perusing the unique treats on offer. These include dried peaches, pears, apple rings and apricots, pitted prunes, homemade jams and preserves, chutneys, rusks (a South African favourite, this is a dry biscuit that is best enjoyed dunked in coffee), dry wors and biltong (dried, spiced meats), and lovely olive oils. An added bonus is the selection of different red bush teas (or rooibos teas) and the Agulhas honeybush tea. Many of these products are on offer at wholesale prices, giving shoppers the edge in terms of savings.

The Wine Boutique at the Montagu Farmstall here is another fabulous attraction and an excellent place to find top-notch labels and great gifts for friends. These wines are all local, coming from fertile vineyards in and around Montagu and the spectacular Breede River Valley. South Africa remains one of the world’s top wine producers and visitors that get to taste just a few of these delicious reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling wines will be left in no doubt about the country’s earning this great reputation.
