Just 180 kilometres from Cape Town, dubbed the gateway to the Little Karoo, is the enticing town of Montagu. It may be small, but it is charming for its history and irresistible for its natural beauty and abundance. Cape Dried Fruit Packers is one of the important industries based here, providing apricots, pears, peaches, mangos and other fruit products to South Africa and abroad.

The Tractor Trip offered by Cape Dried Fruit Packers is a fantastic way to experience the prettiness of this Western Cape countryside from the comfort of a custom tractor. These tours begin at the Capedry parking lot every Saturday and Sunday at 11h00, from where you will head out on an excursion through the La Providence Dried Fruit Farm on spacious trailers that can accommodate more than a dozen people. Passengers are able to see and smell the fresh fruit and crisp air, surrounded by the gorgeous terrain that makes South Africa so very special. Tour the scenic orchards and learn more about the drying lanes, plants, Stoning Plant and imported pitting machine.

These tours are completely free of charge and are open to the public (no booking required, so get there early to secure your spot).

After the 30-minute sojourn through the orchards, visit the Capedry Montagu Farm Stall, Wine Boutique and Bistro for some excellent South African wines, fine food and an impressive variety of fresh- and dried-fruit products. The farm stall is open from Monday to Sunday.

During your time on Route 62 (on which Montagu is situated), consider going for a wine tour to sample some of the excellent wines coming out of the Karoo, delving into its history at the Montagu Museum, or indulging in the fauna and flora of the Montagu Mountain Local Nature Reserve.
