About Tanagra Faraway Cottage

Faraway Cottage offers accommodation in McGregor at the most solitary spot of Tanagra farm, with just fynbos, mountains, endless skies, and silence. The cottage is designed to allow for unobstructed and sweeping views from every room and corner in the cottage.

Self Catering Accommodation

Faraway Cottage in McGregor is very secluded and sleeps four guests in two rooms. The main bedroom is furnished with a King-size bed and has an en-suite bathroom with toilet, basin shower and a bath with a view! The second bedroom is furnished with two single beds and has an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and basin.

The cottage is built in the style of a Cape Dutch Langhuis in a conserved area of Karoo veld and fynbos and run on solar and wind energy. Large panorama windows allow an unobstructed view into the pristine landscape from wherever you are in the cottage.

There is a separate lounge / kitchenette (fully equipped) with an open fireplace.

Two spacious and shaded verandas in the front and back of the house, with an attached plunge pool, offer spectacular views of the mountains and into the Robertson valley. There are two braai (barbecue) areas outside.

Wine experience at Tanagra

Tanagra is a boutique wine cellar producing hand-crafted distinctive wines (mainly noble red wines) maturing in French oak. A boutique distillery has been at work since December 2009, producing top-range European style Grappas and Eau de Vies. You are welcome to explore the vineyards and get personally introduced to the cellar and the Tanagra wines by the owners and your hosts Anette and Robert.

The Area

The best thing to do is to simply rest and unwind with a good book and a glass of wine in the garden or on your stoep, and explore the farm for walks or to watch birds which are there in abundance. Tanagra farm is 78ha in size and for most parts accessible by various walking/hiking trails (also great for mountain-biking) ranging from a leisurely 10 minutes' walk to a couple of hours' hike. If you wish to be more active, there are a variety of activities to pursue.
