About Badsberg Wine Estate
At the slopes of the Badsberg mountain lays the estate who shares the same name, Badsberg. Established in 1951, Badsberg is found within the Badsberg conservancy where indigenous fauna and flora are conserved. The estate's emblem is the protected March flower or haemanthus coccineus. You'll find this on the labels and it was always known that when this flower blooms, then it's time for the Hanepoot grapes to be harvested.
When visiting the estate, you can taste any of their award winning white, red and sparkling wines, port, muscadel or Hanepoot in their tasting centre. They believe that the art of making a great muscadel lies in the “perfect timing of harvesting. Perfect ripeness, preservation of the muscat flavour and sweetness ensure a superb muscadel”, explains the winemaker. At the 2012 Muskadel SA Awards, Badsberg Red Muscadel 2011 won gold and said to have a nose and palate of full ripe raisins and a brick red colour. This muscadel has been winning awards since 2005 including gold and double gold awards for the 2005 and 2006 vintages. The 2008 and 2010 vintages won gold and silver awards respectively at the Michaelangelo and Veritas awards.
