The Merwespont Wine Cellar is part of the greater Bonnievale Cellar, situated in the heart of the Western Cape of South Africa. Being under this larger umbrella means that the Merwespont wines enjoy the same trustworthy reputation, based on the excellent wines for which this region is known. Bonnievale Cellar is actually one of the largest in the country and combines world-class facilities with breath-taking scenery, being perched on the banks of the Breede River.
The Merwespont Cellar is less than 200 kilometres from Cape Town. Notably, the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas is only 100 kilometres (or about an hourís drive) from this wine farm. This makes it an ideal part of any visitorís Western Cape experience.
Bonnievale itself is a small, historical town surrounded by rivers, mountains and valleys. When visitors are not tasting wines, they can go on hiking trails, 4 x 4 trails and canoeing expeditions. Fishing, golfing and bird watching are also popular pastimes in this hub of natural abundance. Alternatively, amble around the town and experience the charm of yesteryear.
