Tucked into the mountainous Winemaking valley of Robertson off Route 62, the club, which resides in the Silwerstrand Golf and River Estate, is surrounded by the vineyards and orchards of neighbouring farms which add an extra touch of magic to the already magnificent mountain backdrops seen from the fairways and greens.
Less than a decade old, this course has already cemented itself into the hearts and minds of keen golfers hoping to escape the city for a weekend. With views across the Breede River and deep into the Valley the changing hues make the elevated stands at Riverside, Silwerstrand’s most exclusive area. In recent years Robertson and the Route 62 have bloomed into an area teeming with new, boutique restaurants and elegant tasting rooms in the cellars of surrounding farms.
The 18 hole course designed by Danie Obermeyer has been described as golfer friendly; it’s a fun, leisurely course with easy walks between the greens and has an excellent mix of long and short holes. Stay within the boundaries, though, for Danie’s signature “rivet-faced” bunkers lie in wait for your wayward shots and they are notoriously difficult to escape.
Hole’s ten and twelve are going to provide the toughest challenge, especially in a north westerly wind but the 18th is said to be a great place to finish.
Facilities include a pro shop; club house; upstairs bar; restaurant; wrap-around veranda; locker rooms and all that you have come to expect from leading courses.
