Level: intermediate to difficult
Type of route: 19 km circular route along jeep track, logging roads, and single track
Best: can get rather muddy after rains, but the rest of the year it is beautiful

This ride is deceptively easy as it follows easy contours through Knysna's Goudveld indigenous forest, and plantations, along winding single track. There is, however, a consistent 4 km uphill climb that, should you not be relatively fit, can leave you feeling rather jaded. The views at the top, though, are well worth the effort.

Whilst Harkerville MTB Trail still rates as the top biking spot in the area, Homtini gives you enough of a workout, and the scenery is beautiful, particularly as the trail crosses steep mountain slopes that overlook Knysna, offering panoramic views of the river gorge and the forests.

From Krisjan-se-Nek follow the road towards Millwood, turning right into Pomp-se-Pad after 400 metres. Head through indigenous forest on a track for about 3 km. Branch right into Deurpad, a slip-path into further forest.

This single track takes you from the forest into plantations via a series of undulating hills. A sharp left after 1 km takes you down to the Lawnwood River (perfect for a swim), after which the road climbs steadily to Portland Heights.

The views at Portland Heights are worth a rest stop, after which the trail takes a more leisurely pace back into the forest – at the 14 km mark take Boer-se-Pad for more single track. At the 18 km mark rejoin Millwood Road and head back to the start of the ride.
