About Garden Route Trail Park MTB Trails

The Park is currently closed
Unfortunately the trails will be closed until further notice.
Rebuilding of the trails damaged by the fires in 2018 are currently underway and we are looking to have a majority of these completed by December 2019. Overall the trails will be better than ever and look forward to seeing you all for the official reopening at the end of the year.

The Garden Route Trail Park gets top marks for quality trail-building. It lies in the heart of mountain biking kingdom (the region boasts a few iconic trails, like Harkerville's Red Route) in the Knysna forest.

Where: 30 minutes' from Knysna, follow Karatara signs off N2, then signs to Barrington
Level: all riding levels
Type of route: hand-built single track, flowing turns, river crossings, bridges, and a pumptrack (the outer loop is a BMX track)
Best: any time of year

The park is over 25 km of well-marked fast flowing single track with route names to match – forest frenzy, crazy creek, and jungle fever - set at the base of the Outeniqua Mountains and Karatara River valley. Trails head through ancient forest, streams, shady glades and tree ferns in some of the densest parts of the Knysna forest.

Forest Frenzy: yellow 10 km trail – includes technical detail, but no climbs; lots of single track alongside, and across, the Karatara River through the forest

Crazy Creek: blue 13.6 km trail for more experienced riders; some climbs, jumps and rhythm sections; plenty of single track predominantly through the forest; river crossings a couple of times

Jungle Fever: red 16.4 km trail with long, testing climbs matched by faster downhills; if you're after views then this is the trail to do

The Full Loop is a combination of the three.

The park is open from dawn to dusk with an honesty box system at the entrance. Facilities include his and hers bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets, available drinking water, bike hire facility, and picnic area.

Please note: No helmet – no ride.
