La Locanda Italian Restaurant in George

The first thing that any lover of Italian cuisine will know, is that La Locanda is owned and run by Italians! A feast of antipasti, insalate and zuppe, primi and secondi awaits you at this family run Italian restaurant.

Starters range from Antipasto misto la locanda (Italian cold meat platter), to gourmet prawns wrapped in lardo; Carpaccio; insalata Caprese and Parmigiano cheese baked inside frilled aubergine slices.

Insalata & Zuppa opens with the most delectable sounding salads on earth – ripe tomatoes tossed with cucumber, onion and peppers, dressed with olive oil and oregano, served with brushetta.

For Primi, or main, pasta reigns supreme. Spaghetti is stirred with bacon and eggs in the authentic carbonara dish; gnocci is served with a Gorgonzola sauce and spaghetti is tossed with prawns, mussels, calamari and a hint of pesto in the spaghetti allo scoglio dish.

Pan-friend fillet is served with mustard sauce; veal escallops are served on mash; pork neck is cooked in a creamy mushroom sauce and served with roast potato. The Gamberoni flambé includes seven large prawns cooked in lemon butter and flambéed in brandy.

The pizza menu is something to behold with toppings like Gorgonzola and Parma ham dominating. Finish off your meal with Italian dessert and an espresso, the true Italian way.
