About Bo La Motte Wine Estate

When owners Jennie and Maarten took over the farm on the slopes of the Middagkrans Mountains, there was hardly any farming activity taking place and much to do be done. The only crops growing were plums, pears and nectarines with old table-grape vines and a new block of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Everything but the new vines were dug out and replaced with Shiraz, Mouvedre, Grenache and Viognier in 200. The climate of Franschhoek is said to be similar to that of Rhone valley, France and these varieties were chosen as they flourish in these conditions. They celebrated the first harvest of the new vines in 2006. The original winery was built in the late 19th century but was transformed into a fruit-packing store and then later restored to the current cellar. The old block of Cabernet Sauvignon was bottled in 2004 under the ‘Four Paws’ label and under guidance of winemaker Gerda Willers.

Bring a picnic blanket, grab a bottle of their wine and find the perfect spot on the estate or around a dam in Franschhoek to enjoy it.
