Franschhoek may be renowned for its world-class cuisine and excellent wines, but it is also known for its stunning surrounds. The mountains, vineyards and winding passes are breath-taking. Scootours offers families, tour groups, and corporate teams the opportunity to experience the loveliness of Franschhoek from a perspective of a different kind.

These Swiss-designed scooters have no motors or peddles. Rather, they work by simply being pulled along by gravity. So, tours begin at a high spot in the hills or mountains (transport from La Couronne Wine Farm to the starting point is provided). From there, you hop on your scooter and head on your downhill adventure.

Negotiate the path with the help of a guide, drinking in the fresh air of Africa as you savour the views. This tour is ideal for families as it is easy and fun, mostly made up of freewheeling down the vineyard slopes that make this part of the Cape Winelands so beautiful. Children between four and nine years of age can share a scooter with an adult, while those that are ten years and older can ride their own scooter.

There is also an adventure tour for adults, which is a little more challenging and on rougher terrain. This includes part of the ox wagon trail and a pass that dates back to 1825. Views of the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve and its surrounds are incredible. As a reward for the extra effort, this adventure ends at the Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant.
