About The Goose Wines

Basking in the glory of the Outeniqua Mountain Range, of the Upper Langkloof valley, in one of Southern Africa’s most picturesque regions, the Garden Route is The Goose Wines estate.

The name is fitting for two reasons, the first being that over 100 years ago the farm, originally named, Ganzekraal (Goose Enclave) was an area where wild geese visited during the daytime and took rest in the livestock closures and the second reason is that this magnificent estate is today owned by possibly wildest of geese – Retief “The Goose” Goosen – One of South Africa’s dearest sons with numerous golfing victories on the PGA tour and even a world championship title won alongside fellow golfer and friend Ernie Els.

Together with partner Dr Werner Roux they have put 18 of the estates hectares under vine divided equally through the range of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc. The valley has a unique climate with its strong points being the cool summer winds which considerably cool down the area and promote full flavoured grapes, and the soils which are a combination of Table Mountain sandstone and shale. The estate is a wonder to explore so contact them ahead of time and spend the day savouring all there is to enjoy.
