Lookout Beach is one of the most popular spots in Plettenberg Bay for the seemingly-endless stretches of white sandy beaches and warm Indian Ocean waters. It is close to the town’s centre and easily accessible for just about anyone wanting to while away the hours on the warm sands or to jump in the refreshing waves.

Lookout Beach enjoys a spectacular setting, with views of the Keurbooms River and the mountains of the Garden Route in the distance. During the latter half of every year, whales frequent the coastline and make for really exciting sights for those on the shore. Humpback and southern right whales are the most common visitors, but killer whales may also sometimes be spotted. Dolphins can be seen all year round, leaping out of the water or surfing the waves.

There is a well-maintained pathway nearby, where information boards let visitors know more about the fauna and flora of the Garden Route’s coast.

Lookout is popular amongst surfers because of the relatively exposed beach break and consistent surf. It is a safe choice all year round, which also means that it can get crowded sometimes.

The nearby restaurants are fantastic for an ice-cold beer or a glass of renowned South African wine. The town of Plett, as it is better known, is popular as a holiday spot, promising the perfect summer beach vacation for families, honeymooning couples, and groups of friends. Plett is about two hours from Port Elizabeth and 6.5 hours from Cape Town.
