About The Fragrance Route

Much of the Garden Route accommodation is perfectly located to showcase the utter beauty and to celebrate the variety of this magnificent part of the South African coastline. And, nestled between Mossel Bay and George in this pretty part of the Western Cape, is the Fragrance Route.

This route is about 40 kilometres of gorgeous Garden Route countryside, and is a circular trail that is dotted with delightful finds; all close to the Great Brak River. It is open to visitors all through the year by appointment (to ensure that you don’t miss out on the best parts of it, book at least a day in advance).

The Fragrance Route is punctuated by the following highlights

• Brothers Coffee Roastery – enjoy a steaming hot coffee that is made with freshly roasted beans.
• The Kobus Halliday Car Museum – this museum exhibits 104 classic cars, which is currently one of the largest collection in South Africa.
• Hakuna Matata Game Farm – an eco-friendly farm that is home to various antelope species, as well as three hand-raised lions.
• Santa Bonné – an export protea farm, where these magnificent flowers put on a show to remember.
• The Village Lodge restaurant – world-class cuisines can be savoured in this upmarket eatery.
• The Friemersheim Nursery – explore and buy the stunning plants that are being grown in these idyllic surrounds.
The Shweshwe Stop shop – where clothing, accessories, gifts, homeware, and the PROEbag (a non-electric slow-cooker) are all available in this stunning African-style fabric.
• Hester Uithaler’s garden – sit quietly and enjoy a sweet treat and a cup of tea.
The Great Brak Museum – this little gem tells of the unique history and heritage of the area.

Mossel Bay is a harbour town just a few minutes’ drive from the Fragrance Route. Here, watersports and shark cage diving are particularly popular. George is the proud home of Fancourt, an acclaimed golf estate that is all about the finer things in life. Cape Town and its international airport are about six hours’ drive from here.
