The Theatre at the White House (Plettenberg Bay)
The curtain rises this December on a great selection of theatre, comedy and music at the White House. Housed in a beautiful historic 100-year-old building in the middle of Plettenberg Bay, the theatre plays host to a vast selection of different performances over the summer season. The White House was designed with a theatre in mind – a vast stage space and excellent acoustics enhancing all performances, as attested to by the performers as well as theatregoers.
The season kicks off on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December with The Comedy Revolution featuring top Cape comics Rob van Vuuren, Dave Levinsohn and Martin Evans. This offbeat show packed with sidesplitting comedy is part of their national holiday tour and not to be missed! Keep and eye out for dance, comedy, drama and children’s theatre.
The children’s holiday program includes drama workshops and afternoon shows for the whole family. Put together by the fantastic local group, Lunchbox Theatre, family theatre is a wonderful activity for those less-than-perfect beach days. Workshops for children include adventure and mystery drama explorations, as well as rhythm and dance workshops.
For older children, Mary Steward runs morning workshops for teenagers, exploring drama techniques and creating short drama pieces that will culminate in a performance on Sunday 20th December. Having worked extensively with the Oprah School and with other groups, Mary’s workshops take teenagers on a voyage of self-discovery.
