A much-needed 350-seater restaurant theatre in George, Kalahari has played host to the country’s top performers since opening. With performances showing all day, Kalahari also serves delicious meals from morning ‘til night.
The breakfast menu includes creative offerings, including twists on the English breakfast. The Kalahari breakfast is an experience, with roosterkoek, sausage, biltong, scrambled eggs, tomato, pap and sous. ‘On the top’ is a savoury mince breakfast, or for those wanting something warming during winter, the wholesome oats breakfast with crunchy nuts and wild honey sounds like dessert!
Light lunches include delightful salads packed with goodness, such as the Kalahari biltong salad. The ‘Wors’ platter is another traditional South African offering, with award-winning sausages grilled to perfection and served with traditional pap and sous. Steak egg and chips should delight British patrons, and their selection of juicy hamburgers should make everyone else happy! Other lunch fare includes a selection of tramezzini’s and sandwiches.
The dinner menu dazzles from start to finish with dishes called ‘Boere Caviar’, which are marrow bones braised in a potjie, served on toast squares; snails; Moules Mariniere and Carpaccio. Mains start with a bang, with eisbein served with crackling making its grand entrance. The cordon bleu chicken or pork stuffed with cheese and ham and topped with brown mushroom sauce sounds like the real deal. The highlight has to be the Kalahari braai, touted as a unique South African experience. Succulent lamb chops; wors and tender steak are all grilled and served with chips or pap and sous.
Kalahari Restaurant takes their steak very seriously, serving only the finest selection of steaks from an award-winning butcher. An impressive array of sauces rounds off the perfect steak. Burgers and pizzas are beautifully prepared, with the Grande finale of fluffy desserts, creamy and rich desserts rounding off the Kalahari experience.
