Grande Provence in the heart of Franschhoek, which was once known as Elephants Corner, can only be described as a luxurious experience of Cape Dutch splendour and fine wine. Its pioneer, French Protestant Pierre Joubert, first acquired the farm in 1694 after escaping religious persecution in Provence. Together with his wife, Isabeau Richarde, they built a life on the farm and bought other farms such as La Motte and La Roche and left vineyards and the Manor House behind for generations to come.
It was a group of Dutch and Belgium business people who bought the farm in 2004 and who continue to produce world class wine. Their flagship wine is the Grande Provence 2004, which was launched in October 2007. The Grande Provence range consists of The Grande Provence, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc / Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. In 2011, the Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 and The Grande Provence 2006 received Gold at Mundus Vini International Wine Awards 2011.
Aside from the superb wines, you can enjoy gourmet cuisine at The Restaurant, taste their wines at The Tasting Room, indulge in a few nights at their 5 star Owner’s Cottage or browse the Grande Provence gallery where prominent South African artists feature their work and exhibitions change in 6 week intervals.
