There are few places as exquisitely romantic, with such an old-world charm, as the spectacular Franschhoek. This town is part of the Cape Winelands and oozes history, culture and fabulous cuisine. Perched along its main road, with the mountains as its perfect backdrop, is the esteemed Gallery at Grande Provence.

This gallery is a well-respected one, known by art enthusiasts around South Africa for its excellent reputation and its providing a platform on which to exhibit some of the best known and emerging artists in the country. This, of course, translates to an impressive variety of pieces, media and visions; and has been integral in setting The Gallery at Grande Provence apart from its peers.

Open from Monday to Sunday, 10h00 to 18h00, this art gallery is under the experienced curatorship of Mr Trent Read, who has been a respected art dealer for more than four decades. He is also renowned as the son of Mr Everard Read, who certainly earned his place in the annals of South African art dealing history.

Today, the gallery hosts a number of wonderful exhibitions throughout the year that showcase the unique talents of local artists and craftsmen. Paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and photographs are all exhibited to create a dynamic, undeniably fascinating peek into the minds and hearts of such creatives. Because of the passion and commitment fuelling this gallery, visitors are assured of opinions and advice backed by knowledge and training. Here, you can get valuable information on the restoration of art, its preservation, how to collect it, and the valuations and insurance of your precious pieces.

The Gallery also boasts a shop in which African masks, tribal art, beading, textiles and more can be purchased as a fabulous keepsake of your time in the Winelands. Cape Town is about 40 minutes’ drive from Franschhoek, and there is easy access to the international airport via major motorways.
