Scootours are non-motorized scooters that are eco-friendly, quiet, easy and so fun. Because these tours start high up and take you through gorgeous terrain on a downhill, they don’t require too much in the way of fitness either; they let gravity do the work. The Cape Winelands are magnificent to explore and, while wine-farm-hopping is the most traditional way of experiencing Stellenbosch and its surrounds, Scootours certainly offer something new and exciting.

The Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is just 10 kilometres outside of the historical university town of Stellenbosch and is breath-taking in its beauty and variety. In addition, it is the starting point of this exhilarating ride. From here, you will explore the mountains that surround the Winelands and celebrate the inordinate beauty of the Western Cape.

These scooters were designed in Switzerland, and are all about efficiency without making a dent on the environment. They allow you to get up close to the plants, birds and animals of the nature reserve, without scaring them off with noisy vehicles, squashing their habitat with massive tyres, or polluting their air with exhaust fumes.

The reserve is home to the klipspringer, baboon, honey badger, kingfisher, fish eagle, spotted eagle owl and black eagle, amongst others. There are even leopards here, but they are shy and elusive.

They are suitable for the whole family. Little ones (between four and nine years old) can go on their parents’ or guardian’s scooter as passengers, while those 10 years and older can have their own scooter. All of the tours are guided by an experienced guide that knows his way around the reserve and can point out some of the best and most fun routes.

Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl are just some of the nearby Winelands towns. Cape Town is less than an hour away too, making this Scootours adventure accessible, especially for a day trip. It is ideal for corporate team-building, family days, tourist outings and kids’ parties.
