About Stark-Condé Wines
Within the Jonkershoek Valley is where you will find the Stark Conde Wines. The elevation of the vineyards alters from 150 to 600 metres which yields itself to various areas each ideally suited to different grapes. The Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals can be found higher up and are well suited to this elevation.
When tasting Jonkershoek wines, you’ll notice their soft tannins, fruity taste and elegance. José Conde is the winemaker and sticks to the more traditional way of creating wine using open tank fermentation, fine sorting of grapes, hand-punch downs and basket pressing.
He believes that crafting wine requires patience but also the need to see that the correct way may not be the shortest line between two points. He focuses on careful barrel maturation to ensure elegant wines.
Visiting the farm and wine tasting in the cosy tasting room is quite an experience. Built on a tiny island, you can enjoy beautiful views over all the vineyards and nearby mountains. 6000 cases are produced and all wines are bottled without fining and filtration.
