About Koffie Stories
Koffie Stories (Afrikaans for ‘coffee stories’) is a quirky little coffee shop with a big difference. It is situated in Gouritsmond, which is little more than a river mouth with a few inhabitants that have settled in this gorgeous part of the Eden District of the Western Cape. This scenic area, just outside Mossel Bay, is where Corrie van Wyk and the five generations before her spent their holidays. Over this time, they have shared and accumulated a lifetime of fascinating stories, funny anecdotes, and insightful observations.
Today, Corrie uses these generations of experience of the area and combines it with great coffee and homemade delights to create a restaurant that is inviting, interesting and irresistibly full of character. She invites patrons to sit and enjoy a fresh brew while she regales them with stories of fishing, exploring, the people that were once here, and the touching stories of their lives. The stories are told at a small fee (around R25 per story) while you savour some indulgent flavours
The menu is full of traditional South African delights and other popular dishes. These include meatballs, potato wedges, vetkoek and mince, scones with cheese and jam, curried fish, burgers, hot dogs, fish and chips, quiche, garlic bread, all-day breakfasts, and home-cooked Sunday lunches. For patrons with a sweet tooth, there are cakes, peppermint crisp tart, and milk tart pancakes. Milkshakes, coffees, hot chocolates and pots of teas are all par for the course as diners enjoy the tales of Gouritsmond.
Koffie Stories is involved in the community, and enjoys holding reading groups or hosting events for businesses and families. This makes the coffee shop a great place to meet and interact with local residents for a truly South African experience.
