About Knysna Forest 4x4 Trail
One of the Garden Route’s most beautiful and valuable gems is the magnificent Knysna Forest. This part of the Western Cape Province is known for its verdant splendour and lush vegetation, as well as for the many different kinds of landscapes – ranging from coastlines and wetlands to mountains and valleys.
The Knysna Forest 4x4 Trail is situated in the heart of the Garden Route National Park, and allows visitors to immerse themselves in the wonder of the local fauna and flora. These include towering yellowwoods and stinkwoods that are hundreds of years old, and an incredible variety of bird species soaring overhead and delighting visitors with their unique calls. For the very lucky, the rare Knysna Elephant (an African Elephant) may be spotted as it ambles quietly and gracefully through the ferns.
This is a self-drive or guided course. Being with an experienced guide means learning about the history of the region, its contribution to the local heritage, and its thriving tourism industry. With a guide, this trail takes about four to five hours to complete. Those embarking on the trail alone may choose to take longer, savouring the fresh smells and cool, clean air of the forest.
Being situated along the Garden Route allows visitors to explore one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions in combination with the 4 x 4 trail. Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, George and Mossel Bay are all nearby, and provide an endless variety of things to do and see.
