Hlutankungu, Natal Midlands
Deep in the heart of the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, at the foot of the rolling mountain ranges of this region, lies Hlutankungu. This little area may not be well known on an international tourism scale, but Hlutankungu is a popular retreat for those who love fishing. In fact, this secluded little spot is recognised as being one of the finest outdoor fishing hotspots on the continent.
Visitors to Hlutankungu may also enjoy hiking, walking and cycling in the pretty surrounds of KwaZulu-Natal. Keep an eye out for the many bird species that have made this inland landscape their natural habitat.
Hlutankungu is just over 110 kilometres from Durban and its King Shaka International Airport. This is a major urban epicentre and promises all of the glitz and glamour of the big city. In addition, Hlutankungu is a 25-minute drive away from Ixopo, which is an important South African town for its forestry and sugar farming industries.
The East Coast of South Africa is a beautiful one, graced with the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. This coast is only a short drive from the inland area Hlutankungu, and continues to be popular among surfers, watersports enthusiasts and those looking for the perfect summer beach vacation spot.
