The Malopeni 4x4Trail is one of the routes offered by the Kruger National Park, which continues to be one of the top safari destinations of the world. The trail is only two kilometres from Ba-Phalaborwa; starting at the Phalaborwa Gate, continuing up to the beautiful Letaba River and then returning to the gate again. It is 71 kilometres long and takes about two days to complete, making it ideal for a weekend away. There is an overnight camp site with limited resources.
The Malopeni 4x4Trail is a guided route that is characterised by management roads with stream crossings, muddy areas, sand and rock. It is only in the case of heavy rainfalls that these conditions become unsuitable for 4 x 4-ing. The trail is basic, and drivers need to ensure that they have snacks and water for their experience. There are no formal ablutions along the way either.
Malopeni is an eco-trail that showcases the prettiness and wonder of the South African fauna and flora. Kruger Park is famous for its wildlife, much of which can be seen along this 4x4trail. In addition to predator and prey, there are hundreds of bird species, which make for exciting finds and stunning photographs.
Those taking on the 4x4trail may also enjoy some time hiking or cycling some of the trails available too. It is important to check appropriate trails with the reserve first.
