Tangala Safari Camp is a highly recommended Limpopo game lodge providing a wildlife experience for discerning tourists visiting Valley of the Olifants.

About Tangala Safari Camp

Tangala Safari Camp is one of the last remaining authentic experiences in South Africa. This intimate and exclusive private safari camp is situated in the 22 000 acre Thornybush Reserve, a prime ecological area abundant with wildlife.

Tangala Safari Camp has succeeded in maintaining its earthly appeal after the recent upgrading of the facilities. At Tangala Safari Camp we have created the feel of an Africa long forgotten, and our team strives to give all guests the ultimate African bush experience. The biodiversity of the reserve attracts a wide variety of wildlife including the ‘Big 5’. Our staff includes well-trained and experienced rangers who will share with you one of Africa’s most splendid ecosystems.

Tangala has striking views of the Drakensberg Mountains and is closed to the Orpen Gate of the world famous Kruger National Park. The camp consists of a central dining and lounge area with full bar and a swimming pool with a deck. Hot water is provided at all times with traditional old-fashioned "donkey-boilers" (geysers).

At Tangala Safari Lodge, accommodation at the camp will bring back memories of a bygone era of the "Colonial Africa" long forgotten.

Thatched Chalets:
Accommodation is in twin bedded thatched chalets which have been designed to provide the ultimate in rustic luxury. All chalets are en-suite and each chalet has its own private viewing patio.

The camp is electricity free with lighting being provided by lantern. Hot water is provided at all times, when requested. We are proud to announce that Tangala is one of only few electricity free camps in South Africa. We pride ourselves on personalised, owner managed service. Authentic Simplicity.

Cooking is performed of either gas or open fires. Our cuisine has been specially created to reflect Africa and all her moods. Meals are social occasions and a time to listen and share fascinating tales of the bush or to sit back and reflect on the day passed. Wine connoisseurs from the Cape have designed our comprehensive wine list, and all dietary and culinary requirements are met at Tangala.

Hear the lions roar while you enjoy sundowners as the sun slips behind the blue mountains in the west. Big 5 and other wildlife in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve have habituated this region for thousands of years. Synonymous with exciting Big 5 Safaris, friendly service and African Cuisine the staff at Tangala will ensure a memorable South African Wildlife Safari.

Two game drives in open vehicles include coffee and tea in the morning while a romantic sundowner interrupts the night drives. Meals include a full breakfast / brunch, mid afternoon tea, snacks and boma dinner. Game viewing at Tangala is of a high standard and compares with the best in the world. Guest can expect to see lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and other general game on game drives.

Wildlife activities at Tangala Safari Camp enable guests to 'touch, taste, smell' the bush veld. The day begins with a game drive of a few hours duration, accompanied by a qualified ranger and tracker. Guests not only get close to Big Game but also learn to identify trees and plants, taste edible fruit, follow in the footsteps of animals great and small and learn about local bush lore.

From the minute we landed at Hoedspruit airport until the departed our holiday was sensational. Not being a morning person I was concerned about the early rises (5.30am) but I was amazed not only was it easy but I actually looked forward to getting up out of bed! The camp is neat, clean, welcoming and comfortable. The food plentiful and tasty, the service....... well how could anyone complain about the cheerful, friendly and very fast service. The staff are friendly and very helpful, our hosts Budgie and Gaynor were relieving staff (but love the park and have been many times), the service and professionalism could not be faulted. We stayed 5 nights, I would have stayed longer if possible. The game drives are amazing, the guide (budgie) makes everyone feel safe, his driving ability makes you feel very confidant that you are in good hands, his knowledge of the animals is second to none. Our tracker Bennet (and my personal spider catcher) was such a delight, if the animals are around Bennet will find them, his charm and cool calm and collected manner makes you feel very safe. Not only did we see the big 5 but I think we saw the big 15, every animal seemed to be in the area and I have so many wonderful photo's to keep as a reminder of our fantastic african adventure. I have spoken to friends who have been on similar trips who were disappointed at the variety and numbers of animals that they saw on game drives, not so with Tangala, I can happily boast that we saw every animal promised plus many more. I couldn't recommend highly enough Tangala, I hope to return to this wonderful place.
