About The Island River Lodge
Situated on a private island in the middle of the Blyde River, enveloped by large indigenous trees and dense vegetation, is a remarkable oasis called The Island River Lodge. This unique eden offers the discerning traveller accommodation in Hoedspruit with the perfect combination of wild virgin bushveld and riverine water paradise. It's raw, wild and untouched!
Accommodation
The Island River Lodge offers rustic and authentic accommodation on a fully catered or self-catering basis.
Guests have the choice of staying in their choice of four river facing chalets or four uniquely designed mountain facing tents on wooden platforms (each strategically placed for additional privacy). Two chalets and two tents are furnished with a Queen-size bed and the other two tents and two chalets are furnished with twin beds.
There are outdoor showers in all the chalets and two of the luxury tents, with two chalets also offering deep lounging baths.
Each of the tents are self-contained with their own braai area and small viewing deck.
The chalets also have shared wooden balcony/viewing decks. The chalets are accessible for wheelchairs, and one of the tents has ramp access.
All units come complete with a personal fridge and tea / coffee making facilities.
Rooms are interlinked via meandering pathways that are lit up during evening times. Each of the tents offers a sense of exclusion and privacy, and the self-catering area even has its own boma and communal area.
On Site Facilities
An elevated Rhodesian Teak balcony in the main area is surrounded by 200 - 300 year old indigenous trees, and houses a swimming pool and boma area under the trees. The braai and dining area are also located on the expansive deck utilised by guests opting for the catered option during their stay.
Dining
Choose to self cater and make use of communal self catering facilities or have dinner and breakfast catered for. Accommodation comprises two communal areas to meet specific culinary requirements (catered or self-catered).
Experience
This lodge is a birding paradise. Trumpeter hornbills, Pel's Fishing Owl and Kingfishers are just a few of the species to spot while enjoying the sweeping views of the river below from the viewing deck, boma and swimming pool area.
In terms of activities, there are plenty of options to explore nearby tourist attractions either on a self drive basis or pre-booking an excursion. Guests who want to enjoy solitude at the lodge can indulge in one of the many walks around the 8 hectare property. There are numerous paths along the banks of the riverfront and even sundowners in secluded romantic spots.
