About Val de Vie Wine Estate
Set in the picturesque Paarl – Franschhoek Valley and surrounded by majestic mountains and world heritage sites is Val de Vie wine estate – a monument the legacy of the Cape.
The estate dates back over 230 years to 1783, when the land was granted by the Governor of the Cape to French Huguenot Abraham Andries le Roux, to a time when the Paarl-Franschhoek region was producing the highest volume of wine in South Africa; an unsurprising fact due to the amount of French Huguenot’s having recently relocated to the area and bringing with their wealth of viticulture knowledge. With the climate of the region similar to that of their homeland - long hot summers with cool, southerly afternoon breezes that lock the flavour of the grapes in and chilly wet winters coming in from the north – the estate flourished. The extensive cultivars grown on the farm include the whites of Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanche, Viognier, Roussanne and Ugni Blanc along with the reds of Petite Syrah, Cinsaut, Carignan, Grenache Noir, Mourvedre and Shiraz. Val de Vie Estate offers more than just superb wines; it is in fact a lifestyle estate with their wine as its crowning glory. Take a trip and see all that Val de Vie has to offer.
