About Temple Wines
In the heart of South Africa's premiere wine-farming region, mid-way between Paarl and Wellington and on the banks of the beautiful Berg River stands Tempel Wines. The old cottage built circa 1784, well over two hundred years ago now, was used by the first Jewish traders who used to operate between the farms and villages. Part of the legend of “De Tempel,” as it was referred to in times gone past, is that “...this original dwelling is still home to the presence of a Rabbi whose veiled form is sometimes seen moving within the old walls.”
Owners Alf & Marie Ljungqvist run the estate passionately and craft together the most elegant of wines. From the 4.2ha of land dedicated to the vineyards, a yield of between 15 and 20 tonnes are lovingly gathered, the production has been limited in in order to guarantee the intensity of flavors and body, both of which Tempel Wines are renown for. Wines on offer are the much celebrated Tempel – Evidence – Pinotage, a full bodied single cultivar wine that will age for ten years and the rare Tempel – Innocence – Blanc de noir, one of only a few commercially released white pinotage's in history.
