Tulbagh is situated just over 120 kilometres from Cape Town, which is the capital city of the Western Cape Province of South Africa, and it is the preferred retreat of many city slickers and international tourists alike.

Readers was built in 1754, and has been a renowned restaurant and art gallery since 1997, making it an established favourite with plenty of heritage. However, in addition to its charm and history, this restaurant is known and loved for its excellent meals and quick, efficient service. There is an indoor dining area as well as an outdoor veranda, for those wanting to breathe in the warm Cape air and soak up the breath-taking scent of the iceberg roses under the shade of the stoep.

Readers Restaurant serves delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners from Wednesday to Monday and its cuisine is described as a fusion of contemporary and Mediterranean. Favourites include the ostrich fillet with gooseberry and Amarula sauce, and the rack of lamb with Pernod and feta. For those with a sweet tooth, the toasted croissants with homemade preserves and the cheesecake chocolate brownies are a must to try.

Patrons of Readers Restaurant will undoubtedly appreciate the attention to detail, which even includes mosquito spray for those wanting to sit outdoors, and a commitment to creating a dish that caters to individual dietary requirements. There are even Banting options available on the Readers menu. Wherever possible, locally sourced ingredients are used to ensure freshness and the best flavours.
