About Blue Crane Vineyards
The Blue Crane vineyards are owned and run by the Crabbia Family. Fred and Manuela Crabbia purchased the farm in November 2008 named it after two blue cranes that were found nesting on the farm. It has a great position in Tulbagh and is set amongst the picturesque mountains of Witzenberg, Winterhoek and Saronsberg.
The winemaker Zia Pienaar and farm manager, Chris Fox, continue to produce award winning wines from the Bluecrane vineyards. The farm is been redone with the planting of more vines and indigenous trees and addition of paved roads. The aim is to continually move towards nurturing the bioversity of the farm and improve the area’s natural ecology.
2012 saw the pressing of their first olives which now boast ‘Extra Virgin Olive Oil ‘status. The estate plans to construct a new cellar, tasting room and restaurant so keep an eye out and pop in for a visit once you’ve made an appointment. Their flagship estate label, Blue Crane, was inspired by South Africa’s national bird. The estate is working with the Blue Crane Association to help preserve our countries national heritage.
