See the unrivalled splendour of Franschhoek on the Cat’s Pass Trail in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. This trail is ranked as being moderately challenging (mainly due to a very steep ascent) and is, therefore, not recommended for children, the elderly, or those that tire easily. It takes about five hours to complete and covers a total distance of 10.5 kilometres.
There are a number of historical attractions along trail. These include the Jan Joubertgat Bridge, Cat’s Toll House and the Old Outspan, which was originally a resting place for travellers and their band of oxen. The entire reserve is part of the Boland Biosphere Reserve as declared by UNESCO. It is home to gorgeous fynbos as well as awesome bird species.
