Bushmans Nek Valley, Drakensberg
Bushmans Nek can be found in the southern region of Kwazulu Natal's Drakensberg.
Reedbuk, Eland, Klipspringer, Grey Rhebok and Oribi are often spotted here as are Dassie, Porcupines and Rock Hyrax. The birdlife is also abundant and if you are lucky may cast your eyes upon the Black Eagle or Jackal Buzzard.
Fly-fishing is popular in the streams with Trout being the main catch. Many hiking trails run through the area including the Giants Cup Hiking trail which is a long sixty eight kilometers, taking you through the grasslands, forests and mountain area.
If you are exploring here you may want to keep your eyes peeled for the Bushmans Cave. From the cave mouth are breathtaking views and inside the cave you can get shelter from the wind or rain, make a snack or take a power nap.
Many natural pools are found along the way to the cave and are very popular for swimming in. Make sure you are well prepared when visiting Bushman’s Nek as there are no overnight facilities here, although campsites and hotels can be found not far away in Underberg and Himeville.
