About Valley Lakes

Valley Lakes is situated approximately 30kms from Underberg, nestled in the Ndawana Valley, and the lake is fed by the pristine waters of the Ndawana River, the source of which is over 2000m above sea level in the majestic Southern Drakensberg.

Self Catering Accommodation

The cottages are set at the top of the lake, thirty metres from the river. A short row through the willows puts you on the lake. The cottages sleep eight people each; all cottages are self-catering and fully equipped but there are no TV's. All linen is supplied, but please bring your own towels.

The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove, microwave and fridge / freezer, plus all crockery, cutlery and utensils. Cosy fireplaces give warmth and companionship to chilly winter evenings - you may even be lucky enough to experience a snow storm.

Braai facilities are provided but please bring your charcoal. Please enquire if wood will be available to purchase.

The cottages are serviced once a day, Monday to Saturday, in the lounge, kitchen and bathrooms only. No service in bedrooms or on Sundays or Public Holidays. We are not pet friendly.

Attractions and Activities

There is an abundance of wildlife; otters, rhebuck, duiker, eland and reedbuck, to name a few, therefore cameras are essential. For the Nature Lover's the wealth of birdlife, including the Fish Eagle, as well as the indigenous flora will keep you enchanted for many hours, remember to pack the binoculars!

For outdoor enthusiasts, hikers and mountain bikers, there are 300 Ha to explore including river frontage as well the mighty Taba Msilo to conquer.

For the fishermen, take up the challenge and try for our wily, naturally spawned rainbow and brown trout. There are 15kms of pristine river and ~ 70 hectares of lake. Only fly-fishing tackle is allowed, and in order not to disturb the tranquillity, no power boats please. Bring your own kick-craft or float tubes in order to access the lake. We also hire boats if you have none.

Bring your passports and take a 4 x 4 trip up the awesome Sani Pass, organized tours are available from Underberg.
