About Giants Cup Wilderness Reserve
Giants Cup Wilderness Reserve, the premier wild-trout fly fishing destination in Southern Africa, is a registered site of Conservation Significance (site no 49). Home to prolific wildlife and waterfowl, the resrve has been called "one of the most beautiful fly-fishing destinations on the planet" (R. Kirby).
With the Umzimkulwana river and a lake full of wild-spawning rainbow and brown trout, Giants Cup Wilderness sets the standard for authentic wilderness angling in spectacular mountain scenery. It is a birders and hikers paradise. There are more than 106 identified rock-art sites in the sandstone layer in the surrounding Drakensberg wilderness.
Self Catering Accommodation
With four en-suite double bedrooms in 3 thatched units, Giants Cup Wilderness Reserve offers exceptional comfort and privacy in an unspoiled mountain wilderness.
The Lakeside Lodge and Fisherman's Cottage:
These cottages are set in the pines - a short cast away from the water's edge,with en-suite Jacuzzi baths, fully-equipped kitchens, lounge with fireplace, patio and braai, offering accommodation in well-appointed comfort. All linens, crockery and cutlery are provided.
Duckbay Lodge:
The lodge occupies the premium position on the farm. It is set on the edge of a pine glade, up near the estuary and the reed-beds that surround it. Very private and a birder's paradise. With an en-suite Jacuzzi bath, fully-equipped kitchen, lounge and fireplace, patio and braai. Please note that this Lodge is 4x4 access only.
The lodging is well-appointed but without a TV, radio or telephones. Cell phone reception varies from good to poor.
Location & Access
The reserve is situated just outside Underberg in the Southern Drakensberg at the end of a 2,5km stretch of rough road, low vehicles are not advised.
