Location & Access

The reserve is situated just outside Underberg in the Southern Drakensberg at the end of a 2,5km stretch of rough road, low vehicles are not advised.

Activities

We have some unbelievable hikes straight from your doorstep when staying with us. It doesn’t matter if you are a hiking newcomer or an experienced hiker, we have something for everyone. Enjoy a short trail around our lake or a long day up to the escapement, the best part about it is you will likely not see another person and the views are breathtaking!

Where else can you fly-fish for wild spawning fish of up to 10.5 pounds, while surrounded by herds of grazing eland and mountain reedbuck, and with lammergeyer (bearded vulture) or black eagle circling overhead? The lake & Umzimkulwana river, which flows through it, comprise an open, naturally self-sustaining fishery.

The second bedroom is furnished with two double beds and has an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and basin. Please note that a high rise vehicle is required for this unit.

Very private, a birder's paradise. It consists of two bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms. The main bedroom is furnished with a King bed and has an en-suite bathroom fitted with a bath and shower, toilet and basin. The second bedroom is furnished with a King bed and an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and basin. In both bedrooms the King Beds can be separated into singles on request. The unit has an open plan lounge and fully equipped Kitchen area. Please note that a high rise vehicle is required to access this unit.

The last half kilometre of access is primitive and a high rise vehicle is required to reach this cottage.

The owner is a fly fisher of note with knowledge to astound on the subject. The facilities are very neat and the staff very friendly. The surroundings spectacular. We had a marvellous time. Take lots of warm clothes in winter.
