About Drakensberg Canopy Tour

Drakensberg accommodation is always special because it promises a place to stay in some of South Africa’s most spectacular countryside. The area is famous for its awesome hiking, walking and cycling trails because there is so much natural beauty to explore. Of course, there is another way to discover what the Drakensberg has to offer – by soaring over it.

The Drakensberg Canopy Tours are nestled in the indigenous forests of this natural treasure trove; where the rugged faces of the cliffs and the verdant lushness of the greenery converge. The Cathkin Peak stands tall over the whole scene, like a sentry on guard.

After a thorough safety briefing, you will be kitted out completely and then taken in an open vehicle to the first platform. Along the way, you can enjoy gorgeous views of the Central Drakensberg.

From the first platform, you will whizz along steel cables from one platform to the next, hanging from the safety of a harness. In the safety briefing, you’ll learn how the braking system works so that you can go as fast or as slowly as you choose – depending on whether you’re there for the thrill or the views.

There is a combination of treetop and cliff face platforms, and this experience includes the first elevated rock face walkway on the African continent. But, more than just the thrill of it all, the Drakensberg Canopy Tour is also about the spectacular fauna and flora that you get to see along the way. Afterwards, enjoy a light meal with your tour group before heading back to the open vehicle for the ride back.

This is perfect for a family holiday, school tour, or team-building initiative. The guides have loads of experience and insights into the surrounding area, and add so much value to your ziplining experience. This tour is just over four hours from Johannesburg and about 2.5 hours from Durban (both of which are home to international airports).
