About The Giraffe House

The Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness Centre is privately owned and situated on 15 Hectares of land between Klapmuts and Stellenbosch.

Founder and animal showman, Brian Foster, has a gift as an 'animal whisperer' and is often seen sporting a Crocodile Dundee style hat to complete the reputation. His mission is to educate the public on the challenges facing wildlife.

The environment focuses on African wildlife in a family friendly relaxed setting (so you can bring your own family 'wildlife' in the form of children). The message of conservation is conveyed in a way that appeals to the little ones, so no boring talks but rather an unforgettable show with lots of action and interaction.

The centre houses a range of animals, birds and reptiles with every species serving an educational purpose in understanding and respecting the delicate balance of nature. The centre hosts the smallest antelope in the world, the Blue Duiker as well as the largest antelope in the world, the Eland. The rarest buck in the country, the Bontebok plays freely at the Centre as does one of the Big Five, the Buffalo.

The tallest animal in the world is easily spotted, the Giraffe as is the largest reptile in Africa, the Nile crocodile. Hawks, Falcons and Kestrels take part in the free-flying demonstration which has led a few of them to a celebrity status (no autographs please!) in some the Hollywood features filmed in South Africa starring names like Kieffer Sutherland and Nicholas Cage.

Bring your own picnic (no alcohol permitted) and make a day of the adventure, there is also a small kiosk that provides a few snacks. Children’s parties are hosted complete with a giraffe jumping castle or a few of the special wildlife 'entertainers' can make a guest appearance at your home birthday party, who needs animal balloons when you can have animals!
